This is nicely eerie. I don't think you went too far with the manipulation bit; it still retains a photographic quality to me, at least. Fantastic color here, the golden light and the heavy shadows give a wonderful "purgatory" sort of feeling. The upthrusting hand is incredibly dense with associate symbolic references of reaching towards redemption or something like that, but also with defiance, along with other things. I love it when art allows you to read things into it. Great work.
