Description
I was using a borrowed Nikon 105mm macro lens on a tripod. I am still guessing about settings as you can tell from the top image - that is what it looked like from the camera with just some cropping. It looked great through the viewfinder, lol.
Focal length - 105mm
f22
1/200 sec
ISO 200
spot metering
manual exposure
flash
Apparently those were not good choices, lol.
Fortunately, I was able to get a usable image by using Paint Shop Pro (as shown in the bottom shot). Thanks goodness for digital editing software. I would really have regretted not getting a shot of this male Dragonfly. It is a new species for me. I don't even mind that he was missing a big part of one hind wing.
Thanks to those who take the time to comment.

Outstanding shot well done I think your problem could be the "Spot metering" Been using a Nikon 105 for the last 8 years with out any problems love the lens
The edited image shows good detail, Excellent work Leeco.
How wonderful to see a new species!
Excellent work
wonderful dragonfly ! super flight photo!
nice work. sometimes the barrel of the lens can get in the way of the flash. you might try a deflector on your flash. they do sell them ,but a plastic from plain milk jug might work just as well. it is easy to attach a rubber band. with your old 7900 nikon you did not have that problem as the barrel was not that long. steve
Not used a Nikon myself so cannot give you advise on it Lee, but I do know that it is a good camera that you have chosen and am sure you will master it eventually. Like you say in this shot thanks for PSP or any other digital editing software. Excellent work, great rescue. Bravo!!!!!
I hate it when that happens. Probably opening the aperature some would have done wonders. Good save though.
wonderful job with this capture, love its color
Cool shot - I think you should use a macro-flash for those shots. Those flashes are like rings on the lens and so you get better results.
