Description
I took the day off from everything except playing with a new DSLR camera system I bought this past Christmas. I got a Nikon D40X with 2 Nikkor AF-VR lenses - (18-55mm and 55-200mm).
I recently posted a thread in the forum about my decision to upgrade and my opinion about having done that, if anyone cares to read it.
I have been so occupied with other stuff for the past 5 months or so, I have only spent a few minutes with it till now and I have not had much success with it including today.
This image of a rather large ant was taken with my old Nikon 7900 pocket camera. I took it with me on today's outing and alternated between the two. I took 10 times more pics with the new one but had a much much lower success rate than with the old one. They are to completely different cameras with completely different skills needed.
Tomorrow, I will post an image of this ant taken with the new camera. I took maybe 50 pics of this ant with it and only got one or two that were even close to being usable. I only took 3 with the old camera and got 2 usable ones, lol. So much for newer is better, at least until I overcome the learning curve.
Thanks to those who take the time to comment.

nice shot..!
Don't give up on the Nikon D40, definitely a different camera than the 7900. The more you use it, the more accustomed you'll get with it.
Great shot! Woooweee, hate for that one to bite me!

I hear ya. I got an upgrade (not as upgraded as you) and found I was pretty dumb. So many more settings to use, combinations that work and don't work, and I can't just whip out my camera and shoot. I have to set it up and THINK. LOL This is one heck of a great shot. The details and color are tremendous.
very cute ant! Fantastic macro!
Superb! You already know how I feel about heavy, expensive and complicated equipment! But I wish you the very best with it!
Great macro - congrats for the new cam and lenses. The Nikkor 18-55mm is a great lens I think. Mine was broken in January but the insurance paid the repair.
Absolutely nothing wrong with the 'old' one, still an amazing capture & composition ! Cheers BB
Wow!!! Stunning macro, great details and light too!!! EXcellent shot!!! :)
Very cool capture Lee! I can say that each time I have upgraded my cameras the transition is trying to say the least. Keep clicking.
Excellent capture. Great details and colors.
