Description
Chicago is a city best seen at night--in its downtown core, it glimmers like a dream, like some phantom of another world: a future not-yet born, a past not remembered. Chicago, seen at night resembles jewels spilled from some giants treasure chest: gems in the colors of halogen light, sodium vapor, and high-pressure mercury vapor. Such colors, rare in nature, are prevalent in the city.

This is one of the first pictures I took upon my return to the Windy City. When I left, the Trump Tower was little more than marks on paper. Upon my return, I found myself confused by the strange tower standing in the footprint of the former Sun Times Building. I'm not quite sure of what I think of Donald Trump's monument to himself, but it does have a host of pretty lights, and an intriguing spiral driveway up to it's parking garage.
As always, thank you for viewing and reading and commenting, and hopefully you're having a great weekend.

As a structure of light it's stunning, and you've captured that magic very well! I'm also of two minds over man's buildings...they can be lovely, but overall they're so very destructive. Great work, Chip!
Wow amazing! Never seen one quite like this...cool!:-) I bet it looks completely different during the day?
Superb image.SO beautiful and so joyful that cylinder of light playing the unreal, surounded by naked trees...So much light and joyful and no one there!Great play with contrasts.Fav.
Mr. Trump has always been quite a showman. Especially when he is showing off his own achievements - he calls them that. The night light of a great city can be very enchanting. One of my first plane rides took me over Toronto on a clear night. It is quite a ballet of colour and geometry. I see Chicago is well blessed with similar visions. Interesting though, this looks some what related to Toronto's modern City Hall but the curvatures reversed from concave to convex. Beautiful shot.
Lights, lights and more lights--they do make the pic, don't they? I love the trees in the foreground, they really add a nice dimension to the whole feel.
This is a very beautiful capture, dear Chip !!! Thanks for sharing :) 5*
Wow. In your hands, even a parking garage becomes something special. Astonishing!
just gorgeous
It's wonderful that you can write such marvellous upbeat poetic prose about a city! A joy to read. And it is an almost magical image.
A beautiful night shot and as always you make your objects come to life with your words. I'm glad though to live in a town without such buildings ;-)
Yes, Chicago is best seen at night and you capture it perfectly, in words and images. CC
Fascinating capture
It's like a living structure which only emerges at night, Chip.
Amazing. A heart made of glass and light beating.
Beautiful capture and explanation. Superbly done.
Wowww... impressive view. Bravo, Chip, it's a very nice serie, for sure :0)
Superb you captures this quite well. I've only seen this during the day. It looks a lot better a night.
