In the aftermath of the Dominion War, some Maquis cells remain active. They seek independence from the Federation, leading some to ally with the Orion syndicate. The USS Valiant depicted here is NOT the same one from the DS9 Episode "Valiant". This is an original ship design. That said, this Defiant-type vessel was commissioned near the end of the war, and named in dedication to the efforts of the original ship. It was later hijacked from within, and some of the crew who fought back are currently held hostage.
