Description
"How is the little girl?" J.S. asked as soon as he landed. The others shrugged and said nothing. Exploiting the He-bot's strenght, they prepared the med-lab. They laid Jetsan on it and left the He-bot acting as a nurse.
When everything was OK, J.S. realized that he was both weary to the bone and starving. Thus followed the old rule that you should eat, sleep and empty your bowels when you gets the chance. You never knows when you can do it again. J.S. decided to rest for a while. "There's a room with your stuff in." Eve told him. "OK," he said "I'm going to take a nap, but if something smells fishy, wake me up. Oh! Either Earthener or Rogue."
"What do have the Rogues to do with you?" Eve asked.
"Ehm, we couldn't agree about who owned the med-lab." J.S. answered.
Eve sighed: "Your people weren't enough, even the Rogues want your skin now!".
"Didn't you save it for this!" he laughted.
After spending some days within the med-lab, Jetsam started to recover slowly. In the meantime J.S. assessed his situation. #1 He should discover what really was the cavern-hangar. #2 He should understand why the Rogue wanted the med-lab. #3 He should understand why Eve had saved his life.
The exploration of the cavern resulted frustratingly useless. In fact the only places he could go were the gangway, the little rooms and the large porthole leading to the platform, where he had parked the astrocargo. Beyond that, the smooth metal walls were like steep, vertical cliffs disappearing in the pitch-black darkness. He had dropped a can and he hadn't heard the thump. The calcareous sediment was crumbly and didn't offer any grip for a climb. Annoyed, he put off the "cavern"-problem until better times. The med-lab was occupied by Jetsam, thus also the Rogue problem had to be posponed.
But he could face Eve. It was obvious that she and the others had risked a lot to keep him in good health. He didn't complain, of course. Why they didn't give him any hint even if they were his friends? He exercised all his remarkable charm with Eve, who appeared to be the leader. She always got annoyingly vague when he started asking questions on the cavern or the reasons for their help.
Even Adam, a jolly guy, became evasive about these two issues.
While Eve appeared a nut harder to crack than the average, J.S. realized she was softening.
One day they were having a chat, leaning on the wall open on the black abyss. J.S. thought: "Who dares, wins!" and tried the direct approach. "Why did you save my life? You can tell me it now."
She looked unconfortable and summoning a faint smile she replied "Just for fun, you know it". and turned to go away.
"No, it wasn't." he argued."You want something from me. If you tell me it, I can see what I can do" and to stress the meaning he tried to stop her grasping her hand.
Eve panicked, freed her hand, slapped him on his face and run away in sequence.
"One more dead end" J.S. mused gloomily while Adam shook his head knowingly, leaning against the doorframe.
