Description

Jasmine on point, (there either is or has been a game bird in this area) Large Munsterlanders are a German, working gundog. They belong to the HPR (hunt, point, retrieve) group. When I picked Jenna up in 1986, her breeder said you will become addicted to the breed, I know know what she meant. I have had the pleasure of living with 7 of this lovely breed BUT, I don't think they are an easy dog, they can be, very noisy, always seeking attention, suffer from separation anxiety, can go deaf when they come across a scent and be a general pain in the neck. On the other hand they are loyal, sensetive, fun, very funny, learn quickly, are very clever & LOVE helping in WHATEVER you are doing. I thought my border collies were intelligent but Munsters are more so. They know what you are thinking before you think it. :o) In Germany they hunt deer, foxes (they are able to retrieve a fox over a gate) & game birds. I have to be very aware of my surroundings when out with them, if they happen to see foxy loxy, they will scream at the top of their voices, so far I have been lucky & they have only come across a fox while on the lead, thank goodness!!! I wouldn't just go in to the country & let them off, just in case. I only have the 3 off together if I am with someone else to me 3 dogs are a pack. Two is ok as two plus me is a pack. Meadow has very strong hunting instincts, as soon as she is off she is hunting, Jasmine tends to play first then thinks about hunting. Carla 'B' doesn't give it a thought unless she comes across a scent. I do love to see them working though & putting Mr. Pheasant up into the air, not to be shot though!!! :o)
