THANK YOU FOR IDENTIFYING THIS BIRD FOR ME. I SUPPOSE MY SISTER WILL STILL CALL IT A MARSH HEN THOUGH.
FROM THE FRONT IT BLENDS IN WITH THE REEDS IT LIVES AMONG.

I've no idea what sort of heron it is, but it's a superb shot!
This is a Bittern of which there are around 14 species so not sure where you captured it but looks like the American Bittern Botaurus lentiginosus. Very good shot of this secretive bird.
You have beeen so lucky to see this and capture it. They are very shy and never seen in the open usually! Most people only know they are there from their calling, the Bittern boom as it is known.
well done, nice photo
Great find and capture!
Very nice.
You are an artist. An amazing one. 5+.
Fantastic capture !! Excellent ! :)
this turned out good, and yes I will still call it that because these are common around ne florida and they have always been called marsh hens. lol
Sure looks like an American Bittern to me also. Have not seen one in the wild. Very nice capture. Dana P
