Description

I revised the Asteroid Miner in my last post, the command/habitation section just looked "off" to me, somehow. The more I looked, the less I liked it, so I dove back into this model. I also added a bit more details, like communications dishes and antennas and such. There was also a question about the positioning of the thrusters, so I decided to do this view from the "underside", to help out with that, somewhat. The engines are basically out on these pylons in order to add leverage and increase maneuverability. The side thrusters are for maneuvering, as well. They add up to having thrusters pointing in pretty much all of the cardinal directions, so that it's theoretically possible to combine them to get motion in any desired vector. I was actually inspired to use this kind of model for engine placement by the "Starfury" in the TV show Babylon 5, a design that even impressed scientists at NASA, so they requested a copy of the CGI model from the show. Well, I digress. This ship was modeled in Bryce 6, textures are mostly my own, but some presets were used as well, background was made in Photoshop, compositing, engine exhaust and other postworking all done in Photoshop as well. Thanks for taking a look!

This is a great, industrial design, ship. Very rugged for the task at hand. I like the thruster fire and engine glow. Great sci-fi shot!
