Description
Hello All ~!
I shot this Sunday around 4pm about 3 miles from my home in Placerita Canyon . People were standing around worried about losing their homes and the whole thing seemed unreal to me. I drove as close as the fire dept would allow me to try and capture this fire blazing up on the mountain. I was trying to get a good position between the trees to shoot and suddenly there was this sweet young Donkey who seemed to be curious about all the fire trucks and noise. It reminded me sadly of all the Animals caught in the fire .
I believe this fire started in Sylmar, Ca where hundreds lost their homes (almost 500 gone) in Oak ridge mobile home park ( about 10 miles from my house) A good friend of my Mom's ( Dorthy )used to live there and I have been in that park to visit many times. Drove by it on Sunday (was still smoking and had to view it from the fwy as it was a crime scene ) That upscale mobile home park looked like something right out of a Steven King nightmare!
You can see pictures of the loss here:

The local news said the recent firestorms in southern California this week have been the most devastating since 1961~!
I think they finally got it put out now just hard to breathe outside .
Played with this in PSP a little today. I did get the donkey in this scene with the fiery mountains as seen here but blended two side by side captures for in a better view of the blazing fire . Not happy about the blown sky in this shot but thought the fire was an awesome scene. Only had minutes to shoot this as the FD and police were clearing the area so fire trucks could come in - !. Strange how natures fury can sometimes be terrifying & beautiful all at the same time . My heart goes out to all the people who lost their homes.
I have two real sick daughters right now - will try and get caught up on comments as ASAP but thought I would share this with you today.
Thanks for all your time and comments!
Love to all ,

C'est très Joli!
oh thats so sad for all the animalsand environment .. its a fantastic photo tho!
Perfect. I love it. 5+.
This is an amazing and emotional image! The colors are crisp and vibrant and lively, the fires in the distance are crisp and a bit surreal; indeed, the entire image has a somewhat surreal quality to it, and that simply adds to its beauty. It's ironic that something as destructive as a fire can actually bring such amazing beauty, but then nature is like that. It's good to know that you're safe, and hopefully once the fires are out, they stay out.
An awesome shot. Like you I think of all the animals who will lose their lives, and the destruction caused to the habitat and to peoples homes. The image is well caught, and conveys the power of fire so well.
bet is is spooky and people are worried. very good shot
Wow, what a fantastic shot!
WHAT A GREAT SHOT BUT REALLY SAD TOO I'VE LOST EVERYTHING IN FLOODS AND I THINK A FIRE WOULD DO ME IN. WE USE TO TRAVEL TO CALIF. ALOT MY HUSBAND WAS AN OVER THE ROAD DRIVER FOR A COUPLE OF YEARS IT ALWAYS AMAZED ME TO SEE THE HILLSIDES BURNING AND TO THINK THAT HUMANS COULD BE RESPONIBLE IT ALWAYS MADE ME CRY. Awesome Scene!!
Tragedy for those people who lost their houses... Excellent shot and great work.
Well, the picture is really outstanding, great composition, but the story behind it is very sad. Loosing your home is like loosing a piece of your life. I'm glad nothing happened at your place.
Hope they remain safe. I think you got his attention more than the fire. Excellent. Aloha
a great shot but such a terrible time my heart goes out to all the people who lost their homes.
Very scary. Those poor people that have to just stand and watch and pray. Great pic. (:

What a terrific shot! I hope that the fires have died down in your area and that all are safe there. What great timing with the cute little donkey and, as always, great color and composition!! Cheers!
