Description
France, 1918. In the early morning the Knights of the air slip the bounds of earth. The dreaded Borshe, the Hun in the sun, the.....OK everbody get the idea?
Although there are Allied aircraft that also had some colorful paint jobs, the Germans seemed to have the corner on some of the most colorful. These are Albatross DV-A single seat fighters. Designed as a follow on to the Albatross D3 it soldiered on to the end of the war. Most German Aces flew aircraft in the Albatross series including the Rote (Red) Baron. The two closet to the viewer are actual representations of paint schemes used. The closest was flown was flown by Lt. Dingel, Exec of Jasta 15, The second, "Blitz" was flown by Lt. Hans J. Von Hippel of Jasta 5 in the spring of 1918. The other two are unknown.
No I haven't seen any aircraft piloted by a dog, but the pilots are scanning the sky for him.
