Description
This trishaw (bicycle rickshaw) driver was parked in front of a barber shop in Chinatown, Singapore. He looked very important. Had he realized that I wanted to take his picture he would have wanted a fee. So I faked him out and took this picture on the sly.
Singapore's bicycle rickshaws have just about disappeared. Trishaws had their peak use just after WWII when motorized transportation was almost non-existent here.
Today, some are still being used for local shopping and at tourist centers in Chinatown and Little India.
This picture was taken in January 1996 and later scanned.

A very nice photo and thank you for the history, I didn't even know it still excisted anymore. I learn something new everyday.
sehr umweltfreundlich dieses Fahrzeug! Sehr schönes und äußerst interessantes Foto!
Great capture Sig..thanks for the info! :)
Lovely image and narrative Sig! We still have many rickshaws in Durban, one of our coastal cities. They dress up in very colorful gear and is more a tourist rip off than anything else.
Nice to see the licence plate on the back there Sig, at least if you have a complaint you can take down his number. I think I would maybe use one of these guys to get around a big city, I can imagine it to be worth the money for a slow ride whilst taking pictures along the way. Excellent capture. Bravo!!!!!
Splendid composition and colors my friend
really enjoying this series...this is a great capture
Wow, he even has a hard hat. Amazing. In Asakusa Japan, they still have some rickshaw to take you around certain parts of town. It is a strange experience to ride in one. Now, there are just too many cars on the roads. I like your style, sneek shots. Aloha
A very cool capture Sig.
One of those things that played a big part of their culture at one time and now is nearly forgotten... a great historic marker.

Interesting composition and cool capture!
You caught this very well... nice!
I suspect you don't have a model release. Just paperwork anyway. I think you have portrayed him in a favorable light though he might argue that is not so that you have shown him vulnerable.
Interesting scene. wonderful photo!!
A lovely and cool photo! nice
