Description

Fuji FinePix A330 Sept 2008. Inside the Vatican... The Cortile della Pigna is one of two courtyards. The building behind is the Palazzetto del Belvedere commissioned by Pope Innocent VIII and built by Giacomo da Pietrasanta. The bronze pine cone( formerly an ancient Roman fountain) was discovered near the Baths of Agrippa and the Temple of Isis and Serapis near Santa Maria sopra Minerva. It is flanked by two bronze peacocks thought to have been part of the decoration of the Mausoleum of Hadrian. The courtyard leads to the Vatican Museums. Thank you for your time.
