SIDE EFFECTS
You called me,
Crying,
To say goodbye.
I'd been
Such a good friend to you
All these years
You were so sad to
Never see me again.
They were going to
Put you in an
Institution.
Never
Coming out again.
I love you!
Goodbye!
You called me,
In tears,
Totally bereft.
Your rock
Your love
Your partner
Of twenty-two years
Was gone.
She'd left a note.
"I love you forever,
I'll be back at 4:00."
What did it mean?
Terrified
She was going to
Kill herself,
Leave you,
Never come back.
I love you!
Don't go!
Here is a partial list
Of possible side effects
From your medication:
Anxiety
Dementia
Confusion
Nightmares
Hallucinations
Psychotic episodes
They're trying
Something new
This week.
Again.
I hope it helps.
It breaks my heart
To see you this way.
You're not crazy.
You're not psychotic.
It's the meds.
They just don't have
Anything better
For treating
Parkinson's.

Whew, because I know of whom you write and because I know someone facing this, I am rendered speechless. Sometimes it seems the "cure" is worse than the disease. Truly powerful,, terrifying, poignant words.
Awesome in it's simplicity And yet a very HEARTFELT tribute!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
These are such moving words that spoke to my heart. My cousin has Parkinson's and the medications do such terrible things to her. I trust your friend gets the medications sorted out.
An excellent insight. Your words capture and crystalized a freightening, frenzied, frantic journey. Unfortunately, side effects are unavoidable. Every med out there has a negative side to it. I know I dish out pills everyday. Taking a pain pill will eventually have you end up taking a laxative and anti-depressants. There is no suh thing as a magic pill. Even taking too much Tylenol over time will ruin your kidneys. I feel for your friend and hope doctors can level out their medication soon.
Very powerful stuff, Tara. Poignant and painful. .....and all we 'others' can do is to be there, be supportive, keep on loving.
My heart goes out to you reading this from someone who knows exactly what these meds can do!!! Hugs!
Very powerful!
Very nice work!
A very touching poem Tara.
Wonderfully touching words Tara....and I can relate having a friend, also, who is on those kinds of meds...excellent ~
Wonderful work here...
powerful words...
Good honest to god insight of this awful thing, a very dear friend of mine died two years ago, after wrestling with parkinsons for 15 years, such a sad thing, well done for this.
Every time I go for a refill of my meds I come out of the chemist/pharmacy with a carrier bag full, and each one has a side effect or possible side effect. So in that respect I can relate to the poem. Having known some one with Parkinson's I can relate to that as well. I can only feel for your friend Tara, and pray that they get to be comfortable as possible. Very poignant words.
so touching words, Tara, so heartfelt and true..
Wow, very powerful, Sherry's been there on her meds, excellent work!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

beautiful !! my father had Parkinsons
Very touching Tara...I hear yeah
WOW! There's a humdinger of an ending...and a harrowing, lovely, tender piece of poetic truth preceding it. How fragile human life is, how mercilessly uncertain! I love the forward honesty here...no sugar coating, no "it'll be okay" crap...just plain, simple, honesty! Oh, that goes so much farther than the pretty, sentimental pablum that we're trained to regurgitate without ever once feeling one iota of what we say.
