Description
Azores, Fajal island. The islanders hadn't a cue on what caused eruptions, thought it was a punishment by God, and called both the eruption and the resulting lava flow "misteries". This "mistery" is from a 1964 eruption, the penisula on the background was open seas before that, and on the right there was a village. No casualties, but total loss. The population was relocated to the United States.

Very interesting and beautiful view!!!
amazing story and equally your capture
Interesting scene, excellent capture!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I was watching a documentary on Krakatoa a night or two ago and seeing the denial of villagers with no real education about things they had never seen before was very amazing to me. Even in those early days of vulcanology, scientists seemed to underestimate what power they were observing until it was too late. This is an amazing shot, especially after you pointed out what had occured during this eruption.
Thank you for this master-piece. 5+!!!!
