Fountain of Venus (1568-69) Villa d'Este, Tivoli, Italy
This beautiful fountain dominates the courtyard. The statue, reclining and sleeping evokes the symbolic slumber and reveals the secrets of the garden-behind her is a representation of the waters of flowing across the Tiburtine landscape; the branches of golden apples "hint" at the Garden of the Hesperides.
