Description

As I walked along the beach yesterday, I came upon several jellyfish on the sand. This is really unusual, since they're most often found when the ocean water gets really warm. The water temp in the sea here rarely get above the 50's, just walking on the sand makes your feet freeze!! And in all the years I've been going to this beach (Centerville, Ferndale, California), this is the first time I've EVER seen any. ZOOM!!!

I wonder why? On the west coast of Scotland in August the reverse is true, you can't walk without seeing them!

That is pretty amazing. I was struck by the lack of EVERYTHING on the beach while I was there. The only thing I really saw was gulls and a tern or two. No shells on fish... I take that back...there was also drift wood in piles and I did find one dead gull in the sand. In Galveston, where I used to spend most of my weekends growing up, jellyfish were everywhere - on the beach and in the water. We always watched where we were walking.

Global warming will do that. What an unusual formation we have here, and so diaphanous in blue/purple, Marilyn. Kinda looks like looking down into the core of a translucent volcano. Awesome in appearance.

WOW! This is amazing! I've missed so much in my absence, especially if this is any indication! It's superb; I love the color! I love the unexpectedness of it as well! I've seen a few jellyfish washed up on shore, but none were this impressive!

Truly awesome and outstanding capture of a beautiful creature - even if they are dangerous to touch. ;c)
