Description
Nikon 7900 pocket camera, hand-held image.
This is the last of this weeks “miscellaneous critter” theme. I was unsure of an identification on this one beyond the fact that it was a Katydid. I had not seen one at this stage of development before. The little green wings and bluish underbelly were very noticeable.
Classification:
Kingdom Animalia (Animals)
Phylum Arthropoda (Arthropods)
Class Insecta (Insects)
Order Orthoptera (Grasshoppers, Crickets, and
katydids)
Suborder Ensifera (Long-horned Orthoptera)
Family Tettigoniidae (Katydids)
Subfamily Phaneropterinae (False Katydids)
Genus Microcentrum (Angle-wing Katydids)
Species rhombifolium (Greater Angle-wing Katydid)
Adults are about 52-63 mm long. They are found in the Eastern and southwestern U.S. and are associated with deciduous trees and shrubs in varied habitats.

… a very beautiful photo! There are not such “nice” grass hops with us also. Beautifully that I can see “it” in your photo!
A cute little kid you got there...great macro, never noticed one with such small wings.
Super pic, I didn't know they got so big in adulthood till you said. Those wings are very pretty.
I see these in all sizes throughout the year but never one with these wings. I will have to keep my eyes open more. Fabulous detail!
Amazing macro.
Very cool. I've not seen one here. Great shot.
excellent macro lee .. with all the green, I can't imagine it being very easy to shoot.
Beautiful macro!
Great macro again
awesome macro work... wonderful capture
Great image!
Superb capture Lee, looks like he was caught out in a shower. You certainly have good eye sight, I can imagine it hard to spot one of these in the greenery, I know I would find it difficult. I have to watch for movement, but then it could well be too late. Excellent macro. Bravo!!!!!
great shot
Beautiful capture!
What a little cutie. Love those tiny little wings. Excellent capture. Bunny
Great capture, Lee.
Very nice image! Well done
Excellent. Like the leaves themselves becoming a creature.
Nice shot Lee
