Description
In my prior image "Anchor Chains", drace68 asked if I saw the spot where the surrender of Japan was signed. I snapped a picture of the brass plaque embedded in the deck commemorating this event. The plaque states:
Little did they know at the time that it was also the end of the Battleship era. After WWII, the Aircraft Carriers became the dominant platform in the Navy. Battleship groups gave way to Carrier groups. No new Battleships were ever commissioned. Wow! Great image and dedication. well shot Not only that, a bit of history lesson
I have always loved the power of a battleship...and what sort of naval war board game would we have if there hadn't been the battleship? (I love that game...LOL) There is so much to be said about this spot and the affect the events had on the entire world.
Thanks for posting this image. The surrender changed the world in many ways - pre-adolescent, my perception changed: everything was now possible. One phrase used over and over for the next several years was "New Era." Historic spot. Dick
