Thinking
My brain sometimes
Just doesn’t stop
Won’t let me sleep
Or take a rest
I go to bed
Lay my head on my pillow
And my brain
Takes over
Reminds me of the day
Of the things I thought
Were done
That I thought were over
Hah!! My brain
Has other ideas
It just keeps
My mind going
It takes my thoughts
Twists them and turns them
Mashes them and smashes them
Till I don’t know what they are
It takes my eyes
And makes them see
Things I didn’t know were there
Things that change
How do I turn
This damn thing off
Make my brain
Just STOP
I just want to sleep
Dream peacefully
Of sunny skies
And pretty days
Finally my brain
Gets tired
Of teasing me
And it rests
For the moment

Know what ya mean, Marilyn. Sure wish I could put mine on "sleep mode" at will sometimes, like I can my computer.
I can relate but only occassionally, most of the time my head hits the pillow and I am asleep in seconds, Pauline will vouch for that. Then other times I lay awake for a couple of hours my brain running riot, not thinking of the day gone but what I have to do the next day or the day after that. I go to bed early because I have an early start the next day, then I lay awake long past my normal time, but still wake up before the alarm goes off. Superb prose Marilyn, I didn't really think much about this until I saw your written word. Bravo!!!!!

Cathartic prose, indeed, Marilyn! In contrast to your situation, my brain is fine when I'm awake; it's when I sleep and dream when it gets chaotic. The doctor says it's because I'm creative, which may or not be true. I'd rather be a dullard and get a good night's rest.
