Well MrsLubner has proven her theory. At least in principle. Her method has produced at least one correct answer so far, lol. She and a few others were pretty darn close. I do not know the exact distinction between plant hoppers and leaf hoppers but this is a plant hopper (they usually have a big pointy bump on their head but this species doesn't). Close enough for me, lol.
Yesterday's critter was a nymph Plant hopper. Probably "Acanalonia conica". The adult is green and has a body length of about 6mm. They are found through out the eastern United States and southern Ontario, Canada.
Todays critter was a new one for me. I had never seen one before but at least I knew what it was. Usually, the reverse is true.
Thanks to those who take the time to comment.

What an amazing little creature! I have no idea what it is, but it's a great capture. Bunny
Dang...now I have to come up with another bug name... LOL. Ok, best guess now is the Hag Moth catepillar? I believe that might be why its not on your finger since they have stinging hairs on them. and if I get a second guess, maybe a Monkey Slug? I'm just not sure about the color so I can't pin it on one or the other. :-)
Never seen those before, but it's a Hag Moth alright... according to the authorities on this site: http://bugguide.net/node/view/257/bgimage ;o))
....Du zeigst uns wohl die interessantesten "Tiere", die es überhaupt gibt. Sehr schöne Einblicke in die Wunder der Natur!!!! Sehr, sehr schöne Aufnahmen!!!!!

How very bizzarre. Wish I had time to join the game :)
I think it was left in the bottom of a sewing basket and tossed aside...Excellent find Lee Super captures.
Bizzarre. I think, Mrs. ubner could be right: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hag_Moth Great shot, Lee. It´s very interesting, to view your pictures. Thanks.
Great shot my friend. This thing is truly remarkable - I definately agree with "left in the bottom of a sewing basket and tossed aside" :)
Well I guess PJ is on the nail yet again Lee, according to bugguide this is both names she puts forward. Superb images both, it does look as though it belongs in another Universe though. Excellent work. Bravo!!!!!
