Description

From the personal diary of geologist and one of the first permanent residents of the Mars Colony Daniel Lang: "One of the greatest pleasures of my work is the amount of time I can simply wander the surface, largely alone, to find and explore whatever strikes my interest. On a particularly dusty afternoon I suddenly realized I was very close to the original settlement of the first long-term human exploration of Mars. This place was the beginning of our true colonization effort. I had to visit it, even though it now sits abandoned in favor of more hospitable and spacious abodes, this is our beginning, and it is a bit strange to see it now slowly merging with the dust, rocks and sand of this Martian world. It tells me that no matter where we started, we all will absorbed by this place, no longer will we say we're from Earth, but this is the world that will anchor our sense of self. We have already begun to blend ourselves into this strange and fascinating world." ------------------ As usual, my internet-browsing has inspired my artistic output. This time I was wandering the Mars Observer, Rover, and Phoenix Lander websites. I just had to go and do my own version of a place on that intriguing world. The models and terrains were done in Bryce, postwork is Photoshop CS 3. Thanks for taking a look, and comments/critiques are definitely welcome.
