Description
This is a place that has always fascinated me; the Sutro Baths**. They were built in the late 1800's, burned down in the 1960's. I've read many books, seen some great fotos and they all make me wish I could've really seen them. This is what's left, some pools, lots of concrete and a couple of spooky caves. But that's what ruins are all about, being a little spooky!!

Well, heck! I've been here. I had no idea what it was. I thought it had to do with the many abandoned military buildings. Gosh, I learn something every day. Excellent shot!
It must have been a mammoth place in its day. Thanks for the informative links...quite interesting reading, especially about the fire which destroyed it. Seems as though a family member finally let the cat outta the bag..."they're all dead, and the insurance money is long gone." Thanks for sharing the photo and the links.
nice..........
Why were they burnt down, maybe part of the bra burning of the 60's??? Nice shooting!!!
Interesting capture & thanx for adding the link
Interesting stuff!!
A very intriguing shot Marilyn, thanks for the link, made interesting reading, especially the insurance fire. A shame that such a building was 'lost' the picture at Wikipedia showing how it was when newish. Still it must be an interesting place to visit, I wonder did you go into the caves? Excellent work. Bravo!!!!!
Amazing and interesting! Harold and Maud is one of my favourite films, and now I now where one of the scenes was shot! It must be so very exciting to visit
great shot!
Great capture, I've been there a number of times, but kick myself for not ever having a camera at the time! It is a very intriguing ruin.
so interesting thanks for the view the info too awesome capture sweet smile to you warm hug, Linda
very interesting place
Old ruins always seem to make great photo's Marilyn and this certainly captures the air of neglect. Tony :-)
Sometimes when you find these treasures of history, you just wonder what happened and why. Nice capture. Aloha
Very interesting Marilyn. Would love to go have a look myself! :)
What a fantastic photo and interesting place :)
Looks like it was quite the place in its day. Now it looks spooky, but interestin to explore at you own risk.
Good POV and atmosphere depicted in this shot of the Ruins, Marilyn. I don't know about the rest of the debris, but spooky caves are good and should be encouraged. Incidentally, how did the Baths survive the big quake and fire in 1906? Then again, I suppose if Clark Gable, Jeanette McDonald and Spencer Tracy lived through the disaster, then a good chance it also made it through okay.
this is wonderful to see history
I would have liked to see this in its hay day too. nice shot
It really is a shame when things you remembered end up dead : great capture just the same afaterall it's a part of your life:
Great capture and historical background Marilyn!
