Description
I heard this bird long before it ever showed itself in my backyard. Many people complain about the cooing sound these make but I love it. Another bird I have never seen until this past week. Two days ago I saw three of them, this male and female and another male...the two males were fighting over her and she was obviously ready to mate, flattening herself on the ground with tail raised in the air...
Unfortunately the pics I took of that and the fight between the males didn't come out well. These birds nearly blend into the background with their color so I had to play with the color after cropping and zooming just to get them visible enough to show. I found this site for those who wish to hear the songs of the birds that I posted the last three days...and these birds are listed as city birds.

Very cool capture M'Lady!
excellent shot, they look very happy :-)
Another cool shot Lynn. My dogs do not let to many birds in the yard so I only get them on the fence taunting the dogs LOL
You birds fotografie is fantastic.
Glad you are enjoying the new. This bird seems to be such a well blended set of colors that I cannot get a crisp capture. They are one of the easiest birds to call close, using your cupped closed hands and sending a forceful breath of air past your thumbs into them, whilst opening one set of your fold of fingers like an instrument to mimic the cooing. Another easy one to whistle and call is the tit mouse, also the jay responds well to short bursts of a high to low pitch whistle. The dove will sit tight if alone. The best photo I have of them is on a window sill nest on the barn. Keep a watch and a log and you will be amazed how many different birds visit your feeder. Well done, have fun
super shot!
coo coo cool!
Nice shot of these birds Lynn.
Strikingly well matched with the ground colors!
Nice one, Lynn. We get doves on our chimney tops in the morning sometimes. I hate it when it when all this cooing comes down the chimney (especially if I've only just gone to bed). It acts like a loud speaker. We use to have a nest of Jackdaws up there - they kept the doves away, but they seemed to have moved across into the cliffs and crags on the other side of the river.
Very nice, Lynn! Great image, i really enjoy your pics, and want to thank you for sharing them with us all! Can't wait to see more! :))
Completely new to me, very interesting to see these.
