Have been wanting to attempt a matte painting like the Coruscant images produced by Chris Stoski for Star Wars and as detailed in his tutorials in D'Artist - Matte Painting from Balistic Publishing. Unfortunately I haven't the skill or patience to produce the models necessary for such a huge cityscape, although I have attempted a few...So thank God for Stonemason for his Greeble pack just released over at Daz...just what I was after. This is a first try, and has only took about 3 hours to complete (including rendering). I've also incorporated a few Dystopia buildings for good measure. The original is only 4K across and comprised of a number of passes in Cinema4D (Diffuse, AO, Fog, Key Light and Top Light) and was composited in Photoshop. The sky is a combination of a number of photographs, and then extensive painting for the effects and lighting touch ups. I'll be doing a lot more of these I think, as I've got loads of ideas, and I will be attempting some detailed building models of my own for foreground elements...so thanks again Stonemason for the brilliant models and the inspiration (Was a bit dry recently).
