Description
My image today is more of an illustration. In fact, the images are really not great at all. What I am trying to do is to show you all how close we get to the animals when on safari in a private game reserve.
Both these pictures were taken in the Thorny Bush Private Game Reserve in South Africa. The "eskimo" wearing the red hat in the small image is me trying to photograph the lion lying just next to the (open) vehicle!!! As you can see, he is in the shadow which explains partly the poor quality of the picture. I have indicated two lions with white arrows on the small image and there was a third just behind the bushes and not visible on the image! Please keep in mind that these are wild animals in their natural habitat.... [The vehicle is quite high but the physical distance between the vehicle and the lion was +- 2.5 meters!!
It always give me such an adrenaline rush being so close to one of these gorgeous cats and I really wanted to share it with you!!!
Thank you for visiting my gallery and for any comments to wish to make.
Hugs, Carin xx

Beautiful shot. Superb presentation :)
Super shot, but I wouldn't want to get that close!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Oh Carin, impressive capture and superb presentation!
Awesome Carin!!! I would so love to be that close to them..I know they are wild but they are so wonderful and they just pull at my heart, would love to touch one sigh maybe a baby sometime:-) Super presentation and description! Cheers to 70 days and counting! (((C)))
Magnificent capture!!
It must have been so exciting and exhilerating being so close, I visited Kenya in 1990 and 1991 and saw a number of big cats which was one of the highlights of my life during the 90's! Thanks for the story of where you were, it all adds to the vision xx
A wonderful capture, Carin. Thats what you call close. Hugs. Diane.
Very well done. 5+.
I like this pic! EXT work! ))) 5
Disturbing old Scarface's rest huh? Excellent detail and a steady hand.
Excellent shot!!
excellent capture, that would be an awesome experience, i guess the closest that would be to something here is at Busch Gardens Tampa. :-)
I can imagine your sensation. I was able to be close to a pair of white tigers before and it is a rush
Amazing.
Well I think they are great captures - the focus and detail on the lion is spot on! I really like this!!
Wow! I'd love to see them that close. Tempting to scratch their ears, although I know that's not a good idea.... excellent capture!
The image looks great to me, Carin! An "open vehicle"?!! For adrenaline junkies, right? :) I wonder if the lions are looking at you and thinking: "Mmmmmm! franks in the jacket!" :)
this would give me such a rush aswell carin ,you can`nt get much closer than that .excellent capture :o) mick
WOW! Very impressive capture!
Well he's a pretty scared up looking old fellow. Great capture, he looks a bit sad.
Fantastic shot.
great capture...
That is too close but honestly you did a good job on capturing a lion.
wonderful shot
I wonder how many cars they tasted before they gave up on them :)
thanks for sharing! what a beautiful animal, you did great at capturing it considering the circumstances. please be careful!!! "Objects in Lense May Appear Less Dangerous than Real Life." lol
I know how thrilling it is to encounter a bobcat or porcupine or skunk in the wild so I can only imagine what its like to have this sort of contact with large, preditory/savanna creatures. I don't know if I could remember to raise my camera...probably just stare with a slack-jaw. (dont' laugh...skunks are probably more dangerous to humans than bobcats... bobcats will run and hide, skunks will lift their nasty tail and spray you! LOL)
Beautiful .................
Wow, incredible how close you actually get --you really make it clear in these fotos!! What a wonderful experience!!
Carin you brave thing you..how lucky you are to be able to do this..not sure about the open vehicle though..looks a little to close for comfort for me..thanks for showing us...
