Description
Each year we watch the Bluetits raising their young when they come to use the box in the garden. Every year we are amazed at the relentless effort the parents go to when feeding their babies from dawn 'til dusk non-stop. Their lives are completely devoted to the survival of their young ones and by the time the babies are ready to leave the nest, the parents are quite obviously frayed round the edges from all the flying back and forth with food all day long. Back in May, I was lucky to be around at the time when the babies were getting ready to leave the box and spent a couple of days doing nothing but watch the activities. This was one of a series I took two days before they all left.

How heartwarming! As Flannelman says, they grow fast. The songbirds are one of the fastest maturing of the birds. They have to be to survive. Seems like the bigger the bird, the slower the growth but it doesn't always work that way. Ducks mature faster than pigeons so I guess it depends more on which birds are most threatened.
