Description
"Yawn.... I am so bored with these humans! Are there no rest for a tired old fellow like me?"
I shot this image of this huge male lion in Thorny Bush Private Game Reserve in South Africa last June. We were on a night drive when we came upon this fellow - resting comfortably in the middle of the dirt road. He couldn't be bothered and seemed quite oblivious of us watching him intently. (We were actually waiting for him to roar... There were other lions close by calling and we were hoping he would answer!)
Although this is not a technically good shot because of the lack of proper light, I was still pleased with the outcome. He was out of range of my flash and I had to rely on the spotlight used by the ranger.
Thank you for visiting my gallery and for any comments you wish to make.
Hugs, Carin xx

Just to be able to see one of these awesome creatures is beyond wonderful; I love this foto, he does seem a little bored with it all!! And I swear, between you and Bruce, I'm starting to count the days as well!!!
awesome lion capture what a great big yawn!!!!!
He is just acting like he is tired so you get close :)
Wow, what a gorgeous animal!!
a funny shot. beautiful foto
Baby, are you sure that is a yawn and not the lion intentionally showing the rangers his bad tooth. Question for all those out there practicing Veterinary Medicine, just how much does it cost to cap a a lion's tooth? Great shot!! Marilyn, thanks for counting with us... Love you Carin...hugs, kisses and smiles Bruce
May have had lighting problems But a stunning shot!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
technicalities don't matter.it's brilliant, Carin!
that tooth :( I wonder if it hurts him?? Great shot!
great photo...
Hey now that's what I call a yawn. Your commentary gave me a chuckle - after I'd admired your photography and courage. Great work. Mike
I would have been terrified to hear and see this fellow ! WOW ! What a shot !
wow he looks sleepy, and not someone you'd want to run across in a dark field.. he looks like how I feel right now with revision eating into my sleepy time!
Excellent capture, the only time I'd get close enough to snap one of these is when I can afford the 10,000MM telephoto lens LOL!
Wow. Now thats timing... great shot!
thats quite a large hole in his tooth ,looks as though its snapped off .excellent shot carin and i thought he was roaring when i saw the thumb :o) mick
Excellent shot, cant believe you got that close!! xx
Wow...what a big mouth. Excellent capture, just in the right moment!
I watch the documentaries of Africa and the preserves there ,and wish I could travel in them and see all those magnificent creatures - know they are safe where they are and living the free life. To think that humans and lions can co-exist so well (with caution of course) is amazing. Here people get excited and hunt down so much as a coyote that might be seen in their area saying their children are in danger and their precious pooch might be the creature's dinner... A stunning shot here and I am envious to no end. ... And I will stand by on that countdown as well... :-)
that yawn is contagious, great shot Carin.
Excellent capture Carin. It looks like this male Lion has a Rotten Teeth or is it just some leftover meet on his teeth?
Lots of vivid color and dynamics in this candid shot, Carin. And I didn't know you were expecting. Another photographer on the way. Lots of luck during the remaining months of your pregnancy.
Nice! We don't have dangerous animals around where we live. I guess the only animal that comes close would be the black bear but they're more of a nuisance than a danger - Still, I've seen a few huge ones while driving that I wouldn't want to run into when I'm hiking in the bush.
very regal and domineering. perfect timing
Poor old fella has a broken canine and not a dentist in sight. Hope it doesn't make him grumpy
WOW.Fantastic shot.
The boss kitty for sure....
Fantastic shot... is like an opera soloist :)
Great shot! I love the sense of color you've captured, and the broken fang is a great touch! Wonderfully seen and perfectly timed. Being a Leo, I have a certain soft spot for lions, and this is a great capture.
WOW!!! Excellent taken my friend!!
