Description
I thought the originals were lost. A couple of threads on the photo forum tell of saving images to CD and this is one found. I was happy.
An old Minolta Dimage 100 was the camera.
This shot depicts as I chose to look like an old photo but without large areas of fadeout. Lines of Federals are in the foreground and Confederate forces advancing. The actual 3 day battle took thousands of lives. A sad part of our history in the USA but perhaps unavoidable.
I see such reeactments as history relived, a time I was not a twinkle in my father's eyes. I do not see this as entertainment.
Several thousand men and their wives and families took part in the event. Folks like us were finding lodging more than a few miles from the site. It is those who were there for the real fight..that is where my heart goes.

These battles are still a big part of my life. Growing up in the area I did, the memory has not yet faded for many of the people I grew up with. These reenactments are a way to bring history alive. I love this photo. It has an authentic feel to it and the image it holds is brilliantly captured.
You did a amazing job in giving this the appearance of looking original. It truly was such a sad moment that even today can give one reason to pause and contemplate are we living up to the sacrifices they made for us
Love these US re-enactments, they bring all your history back to life and your photo presented in this way gives it a very authentic atmosphere. I'm always amazed at how many people take part. The smoke from the cannon and guns really adds atmosphere, you captured it superbly!
Great shot. I like US reenactment too. Last year I was in Little Big Horn (Montana) for the reenactment and in Ticonderoga (NY) where I'll be again next summer. I took movie and my sister Sandra still pictures. Now I know that I can't miss Gettysburg reenactment (I was there twice but in August. Thank you for sharing Tom!!!!
Fantastic old shot Tom!
Excellent presentation. Very realistic feel to it. History does not have to be pretty and history happens every moment. Some events are more remembered than others is all.
Excellent treatment of this shot. History should be preserved as more than entertainment. After all, what we do not learn from we are doomed to repeat.
Excellent photo!
I bet it is a very emotional moment the more one knows about this particular history. Glad you saved this one Tom.
I have walked that 3/4 mile across that field to the copse of trees, and it was a very emotional day. Thank you for posting this image. It must have been awesome to see the reenactment!! I wonder which anniversary it was? There were as many casualties here in three days as there was during the entire Vietnam War. Your treatment suits this image perfectly!
love the fadeout style. looks very much authentic.
Hi Tom, your photo certainly has plenty of meaning. Excellent choice of the tones to give it the old feel. Top notch quality. Excellent work
