reminds me of one of the adult (in a non-sexual way) versions of the good sister/bad sister fairy tale i once read. you know, the one where the good sister helps an old woman (fairy or witch disguised) and speaks jewels and flowers after that, and the bad sister is rude to her and speaks toads, snakes and insects? the version i'm thinking of spoke about lips cut by hard jewels and rose thorns. this image is similarly evocative and ominous.
