Description

Venice. Carlo Scarpa was an exceptional architect, he adored F.L.Wright (he once kneeled on the floor and bowed in front of him) and was a maniac for details. Once he came into the fac completely drunk (he was scared stiff of flying, the only way he knew of overcoming it was drinking, and that day he came in from Canada), I was alone in class, and he started yelling that I was a shame for the profession, that I should never work as an architect. I was awed, and obeyed. My mistake. Went into regional planning. Now I regret it. Anyhow, this is a public library and museum, Querini Stampalia, the restoration project is by Scarpa, and the details are understated and wonderful, the iron gate, the steps, the stonework ... I'll post some more in the next few days ...

At first glance this seems to simple and basic in design but the more I look at put one detail with another, the more complicated and intricate it becomes. A fabulous shot.

Very interesting use of space. It makes me want to step up off the walkway, move closer to the water, and sit and admire the view. Thanks for sharing.
