The Tax Man
Oh no it’s that time
It’s the day I have to go see
The TAX MAN
OMG it’s a scary thought
What I might find out
What he might tell me
The bad news I might hear
I have to steel myself
Gird my loins for action
Prepare myself for the worst
I’ll walk into his office
Like a lamb meeting the lion
Meek quiet eyes down
And I’ll sit down
At his great big desk
And wait
He’ll look thru my papers
My forms my numbers
My whole damn life
As I sit there
Hmmmm he’ll say
Yes ok yes I see
And what’s THIS I see here
You’re claiming WHAT
And he’ll look over his glasses at me
With those beady eyes
And I’ll quake with fear
All I can do is sit there
Answer his questions
Truthfully yes sir yes sir
Yes sir that’s right yes sir
Yes I REALLY did spend my money
That way I REALLY REALLY did
Then before I know it
He’s done he stands up
Shakes my hand
Tells me goodbye and says
I’ll get back to you

Those Moments horrible. Think everybody here knows them... The next time take a photo of him. It's sure funny to see his surprised Face:-)) Take care Frank
I don't have that problem anymore, filling tax forms in, he just sends me a letter telling me how much I am entitled to before he starts taxing me. They then take it out at source. They tax my sick pay and my pension from work. I hope he doesn't sting you too hard. Great work. Bravo!!!!!
compelling story marilyn and so well written .excellent :o) mick
Just paly the Beatles "Taxman" and you will be outa there in no time, They can't handle that kind of pressure, Cause I'm the Taxman, Yahaaaaaa!!!!!!
Tax men are a sub-species of the dreaded Suits. I hate suits - so I really, really enjoyed this witty piece. Mike
It's time for the Flat Tax. Sure wish we could recoup some of the tax on fuel, sales, etc. Oh, that's right...they need all that...and it's still not enough!
wonderful work warm hug, Linda
Wonderfull work Marilyn!
LOL! Deja vu all over again! Splendid blend of anxiety and emotions revealed in your prophetic prose, Marilyn. The only things for sure in life are death and taxes (Benjamin Franklin). BTW, my fateful meeting with the tax guy occurs on March 15th. Just to cover all my bases, I try to bring everything of note to the event, but usually end up forgetting something vital I left at home.
lol the tax man . more fear that the horror movies mad people. cool words
Marilyn, your scare'n the #$@* out of me LOL This is great!!
Wow. Being an accountant (but NOT a tax accountant!), I have to say I have a very different "take" on the taxman! He doesn't work for the IRS - it's not an audit. HE works for YOU! It's his job to get you as much money back as possible. Now you march in there when he's done, look at your return, and say, "is this ALL you could find???" LOL! It's a great poem, btw. You've done a great job conveying the sense of fear and trepidation people have when tax time rolls around. Awesome work!
now thats a scary story lol
So true but I love the comment from Tara. I also hate tax time...
Very beautiful, wonderful and very nice!
Taxes! Ugh! I hate that particular time of year and it fills me with a sense of dread whenever I think of what I owe, what I have to cough over...and all sorts of other stuff. Thankfully, nothing's ever gone terribly wrong, but still, you capture that sense of dread that taxpayers have to deal with, and it actually makes me glad to know that I'm not the only one who ever goes through that. And yeah, it seems that men in suits are always "the bad guys" and in so many ways they are...their job, after all, is to somehow separate you from the money you've made. They're bandits! And as Maxine Hong-Kingston once stated, men in suits shaking hands is even worse, because you KNOW they're up to no good. Especially if it involves YOUR tax money.
You should come and live in Belgium, the chances that your taxes are actualy controlled is 1 in a 100.... lol. Good writing!
