Description
It's been my dream to get a picture of a Bald Eagle. Sure, I may have cheated by going to the Zoo, but hey, I'll take it! :)
My heart went out to this gorgeous bird; as I stood there taking so many pictures of him - I wish he could go free. Instead, he was enclosed within a fairly small area, with netting all around. It looked as though his left wing was hurt, too. It didn't sit up tight against his body like the right one did.
I stood in awe before him ... and when I went to bed last night, I found myself thinking of him; probably sitting there in this same position. In the dark. Alone. Drizzle falling on his feathers. But at least he wasn't hearing kids streaking, and people knocking on the glass.
Zoo's break my heart. I should just be happy I got some nice photo's of some pretty cool animals.
I hope you have a nice day.
Shari

Beautiful !!!
Congratulations on a superb shot! Excellent work.
I share your mixed feelings about zoos, but I must admit you took an awesome picture, 5 star anytime!
beautiful portrait. excellent shot
wonderful portrait!!!!! and there could be done something with the zoos. less animals, more space for each, for example. it shouldn't be a showcase, it should be a refuge. one day for public. the rest of the week days off! each different. so that there could be seen animals on every day (but not all. the crux is: everybody wants everything in every second. nothing is worth any more to wait for... (bad weather outside... ;-) )
What a real beauty she is A great first Bald eagle one anybody whould be proud of
i agree here to JeffG7BRJ story -yep
Nice shot! Zoos are good places. If this zoo was unwilling to take in this bird, it would have probably been put down. Since it is in a zoo, it was probably so badly injured that it can never be released. The netting is there for the eagles's protection from local birds such as crows, and from objects being thrown at it by the ignorant and stupid. This bird now serves an important purpose to educate people. After seeing an animal like this close-up, most of us have a greater appreciation for the wild ones. Zoos are also critical in the conservation of endangered animals around the globe. Captive breeding programs are designed to maintain the maximum genetic diversity of animals endangered in their wild habitats. We need more zoos, not fewer. Modern zoos are worlds apart from the zoos of 50 or 100 years ago. One of the best ways to support conservation is to support your local zoo.
Great shot of this handsome guy. If he does have a bad wing he wouldn't survive on the outside. We have an eagle with a damaged wing at a local bird sanctuary who has a bad wing too. That's where I get most of my eagle shots. I do wish if they have to be in a zoo that they could afford to give them all lots of room to roam around in. Most still have small enclosures.
great eagle:)
Excellent shot!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Roby ;O) :O) ;O)
nice post, zoo´s are great as long as u don´t keep animals looked up in thight confined spaces. anyway, hope all is well.. hugz
Superbe image!
Fantastic image! 5+!
I agree that animals, birds and other wildlife, should be free...but, so many are killed by man for sport or the greed of money that it makes me sick. I also agree with JeffG7BRJ. I see a zoo as the lesser of two evils. I'd rather see their species protected in a zoo, rather than becoming extinct by the cruelty of humankind. Your photos are very beautiful and so full of life. Thank you for sharing them. Hugz, Robin
