Description
This beautiful bird has become it is said an "Icon" as you are very unlikely to ever see one in the wild I first saw them in Belize in the 1980's when there were only 24 pairs, and some time later a further 100 pairs were discovered..
Habitat loss with much of the natural land converted to banana plantations and the pet trade is responsible for this decline.
The scarlet Macaw is a vivid scarlet, with yellow on upper wings, blending into blue. The rump of the bird is a bright light blue. The tail is a deep shade of blue mixed in with red. Horn upper and black lower bill, greyish feet. The bare facial patch lacks feather stripes, and is a pinkish white. With their wide strong wings, macaws can reach speeds of 35 miles per hour. They often fly in pairs or small groups and call to each other in very loud squawking hoarse voices.
Thanks as always for any comments and taking time to look

Wonderful capture. Such a tragedy that our wasteful ways are destroying the habitats of such wonderful creatures.
