Description
This clock belonged to my Great-Grandmother. (My mother's mother's mother, for those of you keeping track at home!) I remember it sat on a table against the wall in her kitchen when I was a kid.
She always had horehound candy in a covered cut-glass dish. She cooked on a wood-fired stove, but had a very modern refrigerator with a foot pedal so you could open the door even if your hands were full. The shelves in the fridge were half circles, and swung out.
The light switches in her house were push-buttons, and you really had to push 'em hard! They made a very satisfying "click" when the switch engaged. One button for "on" (which had a white circle on the front) and one for "off" (which was black).
She had an oil stove for heat, an old radio that sat on the floor, a treadle sewing machine, and a Bakelite telephone. She spoke both German and English, cooked potato pancakes, and made embroidered pillow cases. She liked to drink hot water. She always had a vegetable garden.
She didn't die until I was 20 years old, and I remember her well.
Times Past.
The clock now sits in my brother's house in the bookcase next to the fireplace.

The story is as beautiful as this relic. You have brought both alive for me. Simply wonderfull TT....I wonder if people will remember when we are past time? Hugs to you, :)
Excellent shot of this nice old clock.
Wonderful Picture!!!
Superlative capture of this old clock, replete with warm colors, elegant engraving, fine clarity, and lighting effects, Tara! And your narrative vis-a-vis your great grandmother, with her cutting edge technology kitchen appliances, was most interesting and nostalgic. But, what exactly is horehound candy? Sounds libidinous.
Lovely keepsake ~
