Description
Just 5 miles from Pisa, in Tuscany, there is an old and suggestive church, called "St Peter".
The building you can see today is a beautiful romanic temple of the XI Century, built over an older church of the VIII century.
But this place is important because probably was the first church on the ground of Italy.
In this area was a small sea port and according to a medieval tradion, the Apostle Peter reached the Italy disembarking here in the year 42-43, under the reign of the Emperor Claudius.
And here he celebrated the first Mass on a small altar, with few disciples.
(The Apostle was killed under the reign of Nero, in the year 64).
For long time the historians believed it was only a legend and thought the Apostle reached the Italy some years later disembarking in Ostia's harbor, near Rome.
But recently the archeological excavations discovered a Roman Domus used as a church in the first years of the Christian Era.
So the medieval tradition, probably, was true or at least very closer to the truth.
There was also 1200's bell tower, but unfortunately in the 2nd World War it was destroyed.
I want to dedicate this XMas image to 3D Classics because he's a teacher as me and he loves the historical images.
