Description

This is my second shot of the ornamental grass behind my work place, now brown for winter and fuzzier on the edges than in the previous image. The light put almost too much sun on the grass but kept the background dark. I have taken a slight break from more moody shots and did this one, as with the other, for me and for fun. In the very lowest dried leaves of the plant a caterpillar found a place to winter, weaving the cocoon and pulling in the grass blade closely with several fine threads. We will watch and see if the blade and the insect survive for spring's awakening. Technical: 1/320 sec, f/5.6, ISO200, small center weighted. If I had known the highlights would blow out and be unrecoverable, I would have spot metered the highlights and shot at perhaps +1 1/2 EV.
