Description
The Very Large Array, located in central New Mexico, is a large radio astronomy observatory consisting of 27 radio antennae in a Y-shape. This is just one arm of that Y-shape. They may look small, but they are not, they're huge. Each one is 82 feet in diameter, weighs 230 tons, can be moved on a series of rails, and when stretched out full length each arm is 13 miles long. It was featured in the Jodie Foster movie "Contact".

We have one out here also! The Owens Valley Radio Array. Not as many dishes, but still quite impressive! Did you get to go inside one? We went to an open house a few years ago and got to have a full tour, including going inside the biggest one. Very fun and informative!! Great shot!!!
