Dale Arden's in danger again! No sooner has our heroine escaped a forced marriage to Ming the Merciless than there's an attack of stowaway killer robot snakes on the return rocket from Mongo to Earth! And where's Flash Gordon when you need him? So a gal's got to do what a gal's go to do, pick up that blaster and shoot! Still, it might help her aim if she'd held on to the stock as well as the trigger guard... I was inspired to make this picture when I stumbled across the excellent retro spaceships and sci-fi weapons by Geodesic250 in the market place. So evocative! You've just got to love that 30's SF. I learned so much from there:- (1) Gravity can always be relied on to keep you on the floor of any spaceship no matter where it is in space or what direction it's going in, a tradition Star Trek boldly (or is that blindly) followed and lots of other SF films that should have known better since... (2) You always need to keep the rocket engine firing to go anywhere. It was good enough physics for Aristotle so who needs Newton? (3) Space isn't dark in the day time. Why would it be? It's day time. All those rocket ships flying through blue skies between planets... The title of this image would have been my favourite line from the 1980 film version of Flash Gordon. "Flash, I love you, but we only have fourteen hours to save the Earth!". A completely over the top movie, utterly and intentionally absurd and hugely enjoyable. Unfortunately this violates the fifty character limit and hence my alternative. Renderosity credits are shown below. The body of the spaceship including the port holes was all modeled directly by me in Vue using simple booleans, so I did some work other than just putting the pieces together.
