Hello all!!
Just got back from Santa Barbara (went for the weekend).
Yesterday morning somehow I managed to wake up at 5 no alarm (I told my mind to be the alarm and it actully worked lol) and so snuck away from my sleeping family to go walk along the beach out by/at the pier.
...IT was really dark when I first got there and I wondered how I can shoot a decent sunrise at a California beach as the sun sets in the west. So facing west I didn't expect much with the sun coming from the east(realizing I hadn't seen a sunrise on the Pacific ocean since I was camping in the 90's, and never there in Santa Barbera) . I then walked out to the pier to shoot pelicans but they were all gone (...guess they are there only in the spring when I normally come...)
Much to my surprise I realized there was a bay there to the southeast. The sun was coming up over mountains by the harbor- The unexpected is always such a nice surprise isn't it?!! ...
All alone out there 'cept for a few dock workers. It was incredibly beautiful and peaceful and I wondered why don't more people come out and watch the sunrise?
Couldn't decide which one to upload so put all 5 in progression of my walk here...

They are all sooooooooooo gorgeous Kimmie. The colors are to die for in all of them. What a peaceful stroll you had; you describe it beautifully, it felt like I was there, till the kids came running down the hallway laughing and carrying on. lol Anyway, my favorite ...... Hmmmm ... it's a tossup between the 4th and 5th one. I love the seagull in the one and the peaceful water and sunrise in the other. Dont know which is more beautiful.

A wonderful sunrise collection in splendid colour. I was up early too this morning and caught a lovely sunrise. The best time of the day I reckon.
I have a life time friend who lives in Atascadero I have driven from La she from the other end we meet in Santa Barbara I wish I could afford to live there I love it:: Your pictures make me wanna run to SB!! tks for memories !!

Beautiful as sunrise can be. I like the best the second one becouse of compo, and of coure the last two are perfect.
I caught the irony in the concept of a sunrise photo over a beach in California. You've actually achieved it. I like the one with the gull on the rail, best of all.
