Description
At least half of Syria's future. Young school girls in traditional garb in Hama (city of waterwheels) awaiting the marching orders for the annual spring festival parade.
What amazed me here was the incredible ethnic variety, testament of conquering armies marching through this strategic location for thousands of years, right up to the 20th century.

I took this image in 2006, while traveling Egypt, Jordan, Syria, Lebanon, and Israel. The kids were excited, impatient, and ready to clown around. It was 'shooting fish in a barrel'. In fact, they all lined up right in front of my hotel (Riad Hotel). I had a CD made of all of the pictures taken that evening, and then told the teachers that they could come to the hotel and borrow it to make copies. The hotel staff had some pretty computer savvy personnel and I think that went over very well.
Very well done.
