Description
Sunset at high tide. The history of this abbey goes back to at least 700 A.D. The abbey is topped by a slender spire at whose tip - 152m above the sea - is a gilded statue of Saint Michel and the dragon. At night the entire abbey is illuminated.
In 1879 a causeway was constructed for a railway line. During the Revolution, Mount Saint Michel was used to incarcerate political prisoners. Later , the abbey served as a prison for ordinary criminals.
The most amazing thing about the abbey are its tides. Depending on the position of the moon and, to a lesser extent, the sun, the difference in the level of the sea between low and high tide may reach 15m.

Congratulations on a beautiful capture of this amazing place.
Isn't it lovely? I did not see it in the evening, but ended up all over that mound. I even wandered off to the distant island you can see from the tops of the walls. The island is a bird sanctuary, and to my total surprise I saw pink flamingoes there.
I know a guy that went to the 50th anniversary of Normandy and went to this same place.
So do I!
