if you look carefully, all 4 rectangles are exactly the same with the exception of the colours, moreover they fit exactly together, so is there really a difference that justifies the borders?

Koosie, borders are human attitudes. No information will be perceived until it is dozed, i.e. borderd. Hence, we cannot exist without borders. A very nice color solution.
