Description
I would have put this in the Genre Challenge for August (Food), but there's a tiny bit too much postwork here! It didn't really fit the spirit of the challenge. (The challenge is closed, by the way. Voting ends on Tuesday.)
...............
Blackberry brambles are the scourge of the Pacific Northwest. They grow and spread like wildfire. Birds eat the berries and deposit seeds everywhere. Blackberries are worse than bindweed! Eleven months out of the year we all hate blackberry bushes with a passion. We cut them back, dig them up, burn them, put weed killer on them. We sing and chant and pray. We wail and cry and complain. Whatever we think will work to get rid of them, we'll try. We can keep them pushed back, but we can't get rid of them.
But in August . . . ohhhhh . . . August is different, my friends. We gorge on wild berries. They're everywhere! Those annoying, invasive brambles produce the most amazing fruit. Nobody complains about blackberry brambles in August! In August we make pie and crisp. We put berries on our ice cream. We eat them straight off the bushes, warm and sweet. We put up jam and wonder how we could have ever thought blackberry vines were a bad thing.
Once the berries are gone, though, we'll be back to trying to kill them. If we didn't they would take over the world!

Awesome shot!!
Awesome store and image.
LOL, this is so true, I just spent several bloody hours whacking away at those @@@@ vines in a client's yard. But then, the miracle occurs, magic happens, you turn purple, and enjoy. This is just wonderful!!
Lovely! The postwork is incredible because the end result is magnificent!

Whaw! Excellent work! The composition and the lights are wonderful...
Once upon a time I lived on a farm and had wild blackberries growing in the weed lines around the yard. They took over the rough areas but never caused any grief near the buildings. In August it was always a race to get the good berries before the birds did and listening to them screaming at you for taking thier food. Then of course there was the 'depositing' of yesterday's dinner on the sides of my pool - purple piles everywhere. I remember the long pants and long sveelved shirts as protection in 30C+ weather crawling through the brambles to get to the berries and then the jam . . . Jars and jars of the best jam I ever ate. Now its city living and store bought jam. Thanks for taking me back.
Good combination and interesting shot!
I love this shot... and the story, lol. But then, I live in Washington too, so I understand!
Wow what a great shot. You would never think that by puting a few blackberries in a glass would be that beautiful. You are right about blackberrie bushes though.Karen
wow been lokoking at your pics again and i can see why this is the favorite is is a work of art fanstasic if i get as half as good as you i will be pleasedxx
Incredible shot!!! Bravo!
Truly an odd hammer we live under. A little like the tribulations of human love and passion. Can't live with them and... you know. But still, I think it was a bad idea to import the darn things. The cobbler is to die for, add cream/ice cream, get fatter. Thank you!
