Description
I always say, if you don't stop once in a while to look around. oh wait, that Ferris. What I say is, that if you get the lighting right, the rest will follow. Case in point here. The HDRI is such a great one that I could have rendered spheres and it would have looked cool.
Things I know are wrong:
The glass model isn't quite smooth enough for this close of an inspection.
For some reason the wine looks cloudy. This only happens when I use caustics, so it's probably Carrara being clever (or trying).
The glass seems to have a zero thickness where the wine is. Maybe this is how real wine glasses look. It's been a while since I had a glass of wine. There really is a thickness to the glass, so it may be an effect of the refraction.
Things I wish I'd done:
Give the liquid some surface tension. Just slightly up at the edges where it meets the glass.
I only noticed in the render that I modelled the bottom of the wine bottle to be concave. I wish I had made the glass slightly thicker at that point.
Anyway, pretty happy with this.
AND God Bless Carrara - 5 minutes to render.

Too heck with your self gripes. It is an awesome render. Congratulate yourself. Otherwise just shoot a photograph, but then it would be just another photo.
