Description
Here's another shot I took on Friday. This is the Deception Pass Bridge. It was opened on July 31, 1935, so it will be 72 years old on Tuesday! The deck is 180 feet above the water (depending on the tides) and let me tell you - it's pretty scary being up there on foot! The bridge deck is only 28 feet wide. That's two 11-foot wide car lanes and two three-foot wide sidewalks. There is NO room for error up there! Not only that, but there's a lot of traffic going about 40 mph. The bridge shakes, and when a big truck goes by, you can really feel it. I did go out a little way, but discovered I have an aversion to heights I didn't know I had! I'll post a picture I took from up there, just so you know I really did it!
Edit Note: Oops! I got all wrapped up in what I was talking about, and forgot to tell you where this is! Deception Pass Bridge spans the channel between Whidbey Island and Fidalgo Island in Washington State. If you look at a map, Deception Pass is West of Mount Vernon, Washington, and East of Victoria, British Columbia. (Thanks, Randy!)
