Great capture at fly. I know perfectly how hard is catch this guys. Big Hugs
This is a fine study of a Black backed gull, a lesser one I believe. The orange red mark on the lower beak is designed to trigger the nestling gull to peck at this part of the beak when the adult returns to the nest. When the adult gull is pecked in this way it will regurgitate the food into the nest. Studies by a Dutch ornithologist proved that gull chicks are born with this impulse. He triggered the same pecking reaction from chicks by using a stick painted with a red orange tip. I read his study of gulls which was the first proof of how complex and organised gulls have become.
Yes it is a Black backed gull, a lesser one for sure.
Lovely and I like the shadow that falls on it.
Excellent festgehalten! Die Moewe liegt mit lang ausgestreckten Beinen auf dem Wind! Ein Super-Schuss!
