Thnx for the comments everyone, KAP: using various radial lights to try and fake radiosity. five lights in the "window" set to different intensities and maximum soft shadows (Bryce 5). then some radial lights set around the round with shadows off. The room should actually be brighter but I haven't had a chance to play with this some more yet
