I have finally studied the mechanisms long enough I know the connecting rod does not go directly to the wheels like on O guage. There is a rack to avoid piston teetering. It still took me a long time to understand how one rod is so big and one so small when the cylinders are nearly the same diameter. I also had to screen out automatic lubricating tubes as not containing steam. Double acting, Mogul, High and low pressure I can begin to see two peas in a pod. I did research block times on British rail as I was looking for speeds near 130mph. With hills and traffic the opportunity faded by 1930.

Excellent shot of the valve gear. Never spotted this loco myself but remember a sister loco on freight duty in the Colne valley towards the final days of steam on BR.
