Description
Recruits march in uncoordinated step, malleable as lead and ready to be formed. These will one day march in sharp drill, get their brass and become fully loaded cartridges. For now, they are bare and unlearned in the art of war.
This image may be a statement of sort, to each his or her own interpretation.
This was an entry in the Photo Forum Genre challenge for April, macro. I decided to post it to my gallery. A truly deserving macro of life won the April event.

Excellent POV!!!!! love the shadows too, not a friendly image though, makes me sad...
Excellent concept and great pov.. personally I'd rather they grow up to become fishing sinkers but alas we haven't learned the difference yet...
Despite I'm really not a fan of bullets , I must say your macro is absolutely perfect . . . Great compo here !
Great image and title. Well done!
Excellent image, love the DOF!
I'm not fan of this object but I say: "Gorgeous photo".... excellent!
This one really caught my eye in the challenge, a very creative image and well set up and lit. One thing let it down for me tho, i thought the "Drill sergeant" should have been in focus and in line with the first rank, mainly because that is where the squad leader stands normally when marching (as far as my CCF training went anyway), but also because i think it might add to the image a bit better. However i cant be certain until i see such a compo, but that is my gut reaction.
wonderful macro and great pov. The only statement I see is that all things serve a purpose...like it or not.
I sort of get the impression of chess pieces waiting to be moved, and like pawns that are often given away... Most of us Brits dont get the Gun culture.. It makes for an emotive subject Tom and I like the idea of your open interpretation for the viewer.. I do share some or Rich points re the composition.. Anyway Nice one !!
yeah bit of a surprise to the brit eyes........
I'd have put the focus on the "Drill Sergeant" myself but it's a great macro either way
Reminds me of an army commanded by their leader. Great compo Tom....I glad You posted here too.
Some of them look like dummies ;^D Great shot!!!
I remember that day! Those two enormous men screaming until their faces were red! Despairing we'd ever be able to stand in straight lines! Learn we did, and became soldiers. But that's a tale for another day. Very evocative image. BJ
Wadcutters being trained by jacketed hollow points. Interesting image!
fantastic work and mood. lovely lighting
A wonderful, humorous pic.
this is deep! love the angle!
Hi Tom, love the image it is not only stunning with the shadows and lighting but makes one think. As you stat above "This image may be a statement of sort, to each his or her own interpretation." well every time I hear a gun go off or see bullets it reminds me of the cowardly act of someone walking up behind me and putting 2 bullets in my head. I have forgiven them but still don't have any idea why. Memory loss is part of it however I am at a loss for words.
